Birthday Celebrations- What I Wore

It's 2:30 a.m. on May 30th, 2010, the date that marks my 27th birthday!  I'm still awake because once I stay up past a certain time, it's hard for me to go to sleep!

We went out for a great dinner with a lot of our friends and we had such a blast!  I'm just glad a lot of people who love me were there to celebrate and be merry!

I wore a hot pink dress from Forever 21 to mark the occasion:

I spent a good hour on my darn hair for my birthday. First I blow-dried it and set it in Velcro rollers, and then I curled sections individually with a 1 1/2 inch Hot Tools curling iron (BTW for anyone looking for an amazing tutorial on hair curling, go check out Tiffany D's "How to Curl Your Hair Tutorial)

My hair after velcro rollers looked something like this (and yes, I am wearing no makeup in these pictures. I figured it was about time, and my birthday is a good occasion to do this, no?) As you can see, I have a slightly uneven skin tone and other little imperfections, but overall I don't think it's too horrible. That scar above my lip has been there since I was 7 years old!)

So after the Velcro rollers I used my curling iron to create soft, loose waves. I also have ONE track of human hair extensions in my hair. They are the same length as my real hair, but they added a bit more volume (I curled them with the same curling iron.) I also added a fun feathered headband (from Forever 21):

I'll definitely have to do curls more often...they just take too much time for me to do unless it's for a special event.

Here are some photos from the evening's festivities:

Earlier on Saturday my husband and some friends laid out at the pool. I even played a little pool volleyball! fun! I wore my new VS bikini and a Target cover up. The hat is from Zingara.

My best friend got me this amazing birthday cake! Hot pink perfection!
She also bought me some amazing presents including a bottle of Marc Jacobs Daisy perfume which I have been coveting for quite awhile now. THANK YOU Candice!

How gorgeous is that bottle!? Love it!

Thank you to everyone who sent wonderful birthday wishes as well!

xoxo,

Veronika.

  1. Happy Birthday! I'm sure everyone will say this but let me be the first (since, being on the other side of the world, I'm probably the only one awake!) you are as gorgeous without makeup as you are with. If you don't mind me asking, how did you get the scar? (For the record, I love scars, I have one which is about 15cm long on my stomach which I am weirdly proud of).

  3. Happy Birthday V!!!

(btw, your skin is not uneven and your just as pretty bare faced as you are all done up)... oh and another silly q, did you just get extensions for the evening or are they they ones that you need done/sewed in at the hair salon? I don't really know anything about extensions, but haven't heard you talk about them before so wasn't sure if they were new, old, or like the removable Jessica Simpson ones - regardless your hair looked fab :)

  11. Tess- I got the scar when I was playing a game as a child with my cousins in slovakia. I accidentally had slipped on the rug and my face went crashing straight into the corner of a bed frame and it just sliced it right open.

I could have had it fixed because we have doctors in our family, but my cousins parents didn't call my mom in time to let her know it had happened, thus the scar. I don't mind it actually. I usually cover it with concealer, but I don't think it is dramatically noticeable.

  18. Happy Birthday! I love scars too, but with how clumsy I am I kind of had to develop an affinity for them. :-) All of my going-out skinny jeans have worn spots on the knees because I fall so much! And yes, you worried way too much about your big reveal- gorgeous either way!

  20. Noelle- I was definitely debating posting them but for some reason I had this revelation at 3:30 a.m. last night (by the time I had finished cropping all of the photos and uploading them). I think as we get older we get more comfortable with who we are. It feels kind of empowering because it's something I was always afraid to do :)

  28. Happy Birthday! I think you look quite lovely without makeup:) I'm shy about leaving the house with out makeup on too though. On my minimalist days I have to wear at least lipstick or eyeliner because I have extremely fair skin. My mom's the same way so I blame her:)

If you don't mind me asking...are those your natural eye lashes or do you wear extensions?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Julie- those are my natural lashes (in both pictures- with and without makeup) with makeup on I just curl them with a lash curler and apply mascara :) Curling is key! it makes lashes look longer and thicker.
